Small dog syndrome
Small dog syndrome is the name given to a collection of behavior displayed by small dogs, behaviors that have the effect of overcoming any deficits caused by being small in stature. Typical behaviors displayed include excitable behavior, growling at people or other dogs.
Note on ‘tea cup’ sized dogs
Teacup dog is the unofficial term for extremely small dogs – dogs that can fit in a teacup!
Avoid purchasing a teacup dog: Teacup puppies are the result of breeding two very small dogs of the smallest breeds. Breeding for teacup puppies is extremely dangerous and unhealthy for the puppies and the mother. Because the mother is so small, she can only give birth to a few puppies, and there are often birth complications.
